MOIRA Furnace is one of Leicestershire’s hidden gems.  The Furnace sits nestled within beautiful countryside, so there is plenty to love about this place!

The buildings here were built in 1804 by the Earl of Moira alongside the banks of the Ashby Canal.

Moira Furnace was a coke-fueled, steam-engine-blown blast furnace for smelting iron from local iron ore, with an attached foundry for manufacturing cast-iron goods.  With the canal network, the Furnace had the perfect transportation network.

Do you believe in Ghosts? With so much history, Moira has many ghost stories and reported sightings of spirit energies.

But is Moira Furnace Haunted? Whose spirits remain at the Furnace?

Shadow figures have been seen out of the corner of one’s eye, ghostly children have been seen and heard in the woods nearby, and what of the apparitions of the farmers with pitchforks that our team leader saw and vowed never to go back?

Previous paranormal investigations have reported strange footsteps echoing through an empty room on the first floor, and ghostly figures believed to be former furnace workers have been seen wandering the building. There are countless untold stories; could some of the history remain within the walls?

Whether you believe in ghosts or think it’s just the atmosphere of an old historic building, there is no denying that the Moira Furnace becomes a truly haunting sight after dark.
