Medieval Leicester History & Hauntings Tour.
We have teamed up with De Montfort University Heritage Centre to bring you an exclusive, unique history tour of medieval Leicester called The Newark’s.
The Heritage team will lead you, and Mich and Gill will share anecdotal ghost experiences from past investigations at this venue.
During this medieval guided tour, you will visit several areas in and around Leicester Castle.
Experience
Stand in the old courtroom as we hear about some of Leicester’s major historical scandals, held in one of the country’s oldest functioning court buildings.
Green Bicycle Case
One of those was the famous ‘Green Bicycle’ case: In 1919, a young girl, Bella Wright, was murdered on her way home from work. A gentleman by the name of Ronald Light was put on trial for her murder but was acquitted.
The case has all the classic murder-mystery details. It is one of the most controversial murder cases of the 20th century, and it was never solved.
This is an amazing, guided tour; you will be surprised by the history in the surrounding areas we visit.

Leicester Castle. A large motte and the great hall are the two substantial remains of what was once a sizeable defensive structure. The hall is now encased in a Queen Anne-style frontage.

This is a rare opportunity for guests to get behind-the-scenes access at one of our heritage sites.
The tour starts outside Leicester Castle, hidden behind its Georgian façade, but once the power seat of the King of England.
What lies beneath?
We will then make our way along the Turret Gateway, a cobbled roadway at the rear of the medieval Mary de Castro church, and on to Trinity House and Trinity Hospital Chapel, founded in 1330 to care for the poor and infirm.
Henry Plantagenet, the 3rd Earl of Lancaster and Leicester, founded Trinity Hospital and Chapel in 1330. Today, the chapel is the building’s oldest and least altered section.
