About Leicester Castle

Ghost Hunt Leicester Castle and Trinity Hospital

Leicester Castle was once the royal seat of power in England. Demolished by Henry II in 1173 after a rebellion by his own sons, a large motte and the Great Hall are the two substantial remains of what was once a large stone structure, built soon after the Norman Conquest. Kings have stayed here. John of Gaunt and his second wife both died here. Indeed, we have access to the John of Gaunt Cellars – not open to the public!

The castle, Trinity House and Trinity Hospital Chapel provide a wealth of historic mystery, with ghostly stories from vistors and staff who worked there, over the years. Jagged silhouettes cast eerie shadows, as if the echoes of long-forgotten events are etched into its very fabric.

So, if you dare, step into the enigmatic embrace of Leicester Castle. Let the layers of history peel back, revealing the spectral echoes that resonate within its walls. For within its ancient heart, the boundaries between the living and the unseen blur, and the past weaves an intricate dance with the present, inviting the curious to unravel the mysteries that lie in wait.

Leicester Castle’s Great Hall is the oldest surviving aisled and bay divided timber hall in Britain. It still retains some of its original 12th-century timber posts.
