Sitting to the south of the city of Sheffield is an industrial museum known as Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. A former steel working site next to the river sheaf. The museum is located on the river Sheaf and was once a steelworking site with a rich history dating back to the 13th century.
What history has this venue been a part of?
The site was used for Iron forging 500 years ago, although there is evidence of other metal working before 1200

What do we know?
With a long history going back to 13th century. It consist of several dwellings and workshops formerly the Abbeydale Works, a scythe making plant was in operation until the 1930s – and is remarkably complete of 19th -century work. The works are typical in that much of the production process was completed on the same site.
The site is a scheduled monument, and the works are Grade l listed, with the workers cottages, counting house, and manager house all being Grade ll listed.
